03.7 Networking

It cannot be denied that CSW allows one of the largest opportunities to network and to meet with decision makers at all levels. Time is made in the NGO calendar to facilitate this, but the key networking occurs in the corridors, cafes and meeting rooms of CSW. As discussed later in this Guide, NGOs tend to dominate in one space, while Member State representatives tend to dominate in another.

Representatives of the Member States also come to learn and to pick up ideas to take back to their own countries, and are often found in the Parallel Sessions hosted by NGOs. UN Agency staff are also key targets for many NGOs but it is important to understand that in the first week of CSW when a lot of the Ministers and high level representatives of Member States are at the Commission to present their Country Statements, UN staff are extremely busy and tend to make their appointments months, sometimes years in advance.
